The Puerto el Madroño offers a varied sequence of wide sweeps and narrow Hairpins. The route is asphalted, has a wide road surface and a central reservation throughout. Short ramps with gradients of up to 25 percent demand clean braking and sensitive acceleration, the radii alternate between flowing and tight, with occasionally restricted visibility. Technically, this is less of a hairpin bend monster than a long, winding mountain route and the overall result is a medium Difficulty level: an enticing line for experienced riders to find their rhythm, feasible for beginners as long as they ride defensively and respect the steeper passages.

It is a connecting route between the hinterland and the coast, so the volume of traffic is variable: usually moderate during the week, significantly higher at weekends.
