The Puerto de las Palomas offers an asphalted, intense mountain route with numerous tight Hairpins, combinations of bends and changing radii for experienced motorcyclists. From Zahara, the ascent is much more winding and steeper in places, with many beautifully designed Curves.
The width of the road varies as is typical for mountain roads and there is no center line throughout, which increases the feeling of narrowness and reduces visibility in blind curves.
The traffic volume is usually moderate. In the high season and at weekends, traffic increases significantly due to day trippers, cyclists and tourist feeder roads, and short-term tailbacks in tight Curves or at Viewpoints are then possible.
