The Coll de Merolla offers a paved route with a varied layout with numerous Curves and changing radii; in between are smoother sections, while steeper ramps of up to 15% require precise throttle and sight control. The width of the road varies depending on the section, there is a central reservation everywhere and there may be narrow passages with limited room to maneuver - typical for a mountain road of this category. Accordingly, the Tour is more for experienced riders; beginners should take their time and travel at a defensive pace.
In terms of traffic, the Mountain pass connects the valleys between La Pobla de Lillet and Campdevànol and serves primarily as a regional cross-connection away from the main axes. Accordingly, the volume of traffic is usually low to moderate; on weekdays it is dominated by local and commercial traffic, while at weekends and during the vacation season there is a noticeable increase in excursion traffic. Individual sections can then appear busier, but overall the route is generally pleasantly quiet.
